Jocelyn Maughan has won the Gosford Art Prize for 2019, for her work Ken in grisaille (pictured).
Always the teacher, Jocelyn used the speech as an opportunity to explain what “grisaille” means: Grisaille is a technique – going back to old masters such as Rubens and Van Dyck – where a light-coloured surface is coated with dark grey paint and then highlights are created by rubbing the paint away.
The exhibition of finalists is on at Gosford Regional Gallery until 3 November 2019.
Images of all winning works can be viewed on Gosford Regional Gallery’s Facebook page.
